A 20-year-old man, Jasper Jon Mikael Laine, is reported to have defrauded Finns of more than half a million euros in just about one month, according to Iltalehti. The speed and scale of the scam made it unusually brazen, with the suspect presenting himself as a bank employee.
In total, more than twenty people were victimised, and money was obtained in a very short time. Laine is now facing years in prison, underlining how seriously the courts viewed both the fraud and its impact on a large number of victims.
