The last major battles on the Karelian Isthmus were fought along the Vuoksi River in the summer of 1944, when the front centered on breaking Finnish defensive lines. According to Iltalehti, Finnish troops rendered two enemy infantry corps combat ineffective, underlining the scale of the fighting and its importance for the defense of the isthmus.

The attacks aimed at breaking the VKT line began on both sectors on 4 July. They did not produce a breakthrough, however, as the attempts by 23rd Army commander Aleksandr Tšerepanov to pierce the Finnish positions failed on the Vuoksi front.

The fighting on the Vuoksi formed part of the Soviet push to break Finland’s defenses on the Karelian Isthmus in 1944. It remains a key episode in the final phase of the war, showing how central the VKT line became to Finnish defense planning.
