Police suspect eight in Lauttasaari bike shop fire

According to the preliminary investigation, two 17-year-olds set the shop on fire as a paid job. Police say the case fits the crime-as-a-service trend.

Police in Helsinki say they suspect eight people in connection with the fire at a bike shop in Lauttasaari. Based on the preliminary investigation, the blaze was set deliberately and carried out on commission by two 17-year-olds.

One of the teenagers is an Iraqi citizen and the other is a Finnish citizen. Police say the case is linked to crime carried out for hire, a pattern often described as crime as a service.

According to Iltalehti, the investigation is still ongoing and police have not publicly detailed the roles of all suspects. The case highlights how minors can be drawn into serious offences while the person behind the order remains further removed.
