The pine tree immortalised by Eero Järnefelt in his well-known painting Landskap från Koli has died. According to HBL, the Finnish Forest Administration has confirmed the tree is gone, ending a familiar landmark for many people who know the Koli landscape through art.
The agency says there are no plans to replace it with a new pine. That means the site will no longer look exactly as it did in the painting, even though Järnefelt’s work remains an important part of Finland’s cultural memory.
