Ingebrigtsen drops 1,500m from European Championships plan

Jakob Ingebrigtsen will race only the 5,000m in Birmingham as he returns from injury. Hero image idea: the Norwegian runner on the track.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen will not run the 1,500 metres at the European Championships in Birmingham in August. The Norwegian star has chosen to focus solely on the 5,000 metres as he makes his comeback after injury.

The decision narrows his championship schedule to one event and suggests a cautious return to competition for the 26-year-old. HBL reported the news, which also gives a clearer picture of how Ingebrigtsen’s European Championships campaign will be managed.

What remains to be seen is how his form will hold up over 5,000 metres after the injury break. For Birmingham, it means one of the meeting’s biggest names will still be on the start line, but with a more limited programme than many had expected.
