Finnish pork exports reopen to South Korea and New Zealand

The export halt linked to African swine fever has eased, while restrictions in the disease zone continue to affect grain farmers.

Finnish pork can once again be exported to South Korea and New Zealand, HBL reports. The reopening follows an export halt that was imposed because of African swine fever.

The change matters for Finland’s food export sector because it restores access to two markets for pork shipments. At the same time, grain farmers operating in the disease zone are still dealing with restrictions that make everyday work and planning more difficult.

According to HBL, the limits are especially burdensome for farms located inside the infected area. The situation shows how animal disease controls can affect not only pig producers but also other parts of agriculture.
