Finland’s long housing boom has come to an end, and prices are still drifting down. According to Iltalehti, the situation stands out because the Finnish economy has finally returned to growth at the same time.
A look at other European countries shows how different Finland’s market is. Home prices rose 2.6 percent in Sweden in the first part of the year, while Spain saw a 12.8 percent increase and Portugal a sharp 17.8 percent rise from a year earlier.
The gap suggests that Finland’s housing recovery is lagging behind many of its peers. That matters for households, buyers and sellers alike, because price trends shape how active the housing market will be for the rest of the year.
