Green League MP Fatim Diarra is facing criticism after travelling to Italy only a few weeks after she had rebuked fellow MP Terhi Koulumies for speaking publicly about wanting a holiday in the south. The case has sparked debate about political consistency and how public remarks can quickly turn into a wider discussion.
The row began with a Facebook post by Koulumies on 26 June 2026, in which she wondered whether she should make a last-minute trip south because Finland was not warm enough. Diarra later criticised those comments, but she told Iltalehti that she has not stopped anyone from travelling.
Diarra’s own trip to Italy took place roughly four weeks later. The timing has drawn attention because it highlights how closely politicians’ private choices are now scrutinised when they comment on each other’s behaviour.
