F-35 electronics fault leaves one fighter jet in the Azores

The Finnish Air Force says three jets were meant to travel to Finland, but only two landed in Rovaniemi on Friday.

One of the Finnish Air Force’s F-35 fighter jets was left in the Azores after a fault was detected in the aircraft’s electronics system. Air Force Chief of Staff Aki Puustinen said the warning system flagged a possible problem, and the jet did not continue its journey to Finland.

Three F-35s had originally been scheduled to arrive in Finland, but only two landed at the Lapland Air Wing in Rovaniemi on Friday. The incident shows how even a technical issue can quickly alter the transfer of new military aircraft.

Puustinen said the problem involved the electronics system, but no further details were given at this stage. It is still unclear when the aircraft stranded in the Azores will be able to continue its flight.
