Survey: Half of Finns fear AI could wipe out jobs

Experts speaking to Yle say the concern is understandable, but the short- and medium-term impact is likely overstated.

Half of Finns say they are worried that artificial intelligence could lead to mass unemployment, according to a recent survey. The finding reflects growing public anxiety about how quickly AI may reshape work, even as specialists caution against assuming a sudden collapse in jobs.

Experts interviewed by Yle said the fears are exaggerated, especially in the near and medium term. In their view, AI is more likely to change how people work than to eliminate employment on the scale many respondents appear to fear.
